What is Rehabilition Technology ?

PhysioFunction are recognised as international experts in the use of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). FES stimulates nerves and activates weakened muscles to provide an aid to walking which assists with recovery and independent mobility.

​Electrical Stimulation (ES): Therapeutic and Functional :

When low level electrical currents are applied to superficial nerves, the muscles to which these nerves are connected are stimulated to shorten (contract). Electrical stimulation can be used to strengthen weak muscles, or relax tight (spastic) muscles. The stimulation can be applied as part of an exercise programme – Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation (TES); or the stimulation current can be triggered to help the user achieve a functional movement – Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES).
